Notes from the Jim Kwik`s masterclass at Better You Summit 2021

Acronyms help us to remember things.

Acronym WATCH - Watch your words, actions, thoughts, character and habits - this makes our identity.

Being limitless is not about being perfect, it's about growth.

Butterfly metaphor: the growth happens in a cocoon.

Life is the C (choices) between B and D (birth and death).

Making physical notes (writing by hand) - makes you memorise the content much better (about 80% is lost when you just hear something once).

One of the best ways to learn something faster is to teach it to someone else.

Our life is the accumulation of our choices.
Changing choices changes destination.

Information combined with emotion creates memories.

All learning is state dependent.

Take brakes.

Optimal time to learn is 25-30 min. After that we lose our focus.

Move your body during learning.

If knowledge is power, then learning is your superpower. The faster you can learn the more you can earn.
When you learn how to learn - everything becomes much better.

Your mind is the only limit. There`s no limits to our imagination. All limits are learned - you can unlearn them.

LIE - limited idea entertained.

If you fight for your limitations you get to keep them.

Your language has an affect on your brain. Watch very carefully your self talk, because it affects who you are.

Self awareness is a superpower.

You are 100% responsible for your life!

Watch the words you are using!

6 things you can do while you`re cocooning (choices):

  1. Clarity - solitude is a wonderful time for self reflection.

Questions are the answer!
Ask yourself these questions:
“What's most important to ME in life?”
“What's most important to ME right now?”
“Am I going in the right direction?”
“Are my actions aligned with my values?” (If not, you`re not going to feel fulfilled)

Leaders are readers!

We are not burned out because we do too much. Often we are burned out, because we do too little of the things that we value!

The most important thing is to keep the most important things the most important thing.

  1. Care - self care and self love.

Mental hygiene. Watch what you focus on! Watch what you feed your mind with! Stand guard to the doors of your mind.

You don't have to fix everything that is broken and make everybody happy.
    Take care of yourself!

  2. Contribution
Chronic stress will shrink your brain.
You can't perform well when you're exhausted. Chronic fear makes you more accessible to illnesses.
Gratitude is the antidote to fear.

Exercise to feel more abundance: Write down everything you have in your life that money can't buy.
Gratitude gets you out of fear.

Don`t wait for a greater life to be grateful, feel grateful and you'll have a greater life.
Another antidote to fear is contribution.

We are here to grow and to give!

  3. Creativity
Think of yourself as: “I am the creator!”

  4. Capabilities
    Create your “To learn” list.
#1 skill in the 21st century is the ability to learn and to turn this learning into action.

Book recommendation: “Lean startup” by Eric Ries.

    Try something new every day!

  5. Community

We become limitless together!
TEAM - together everybody achieves more.

Monitor your self talk - it affects your identity!

Adversity can be really good. It can trigger post-traumatic growth.

Mindset, Motivation, Methods

Mindset - your attitudes and assumptions about the world (beliefs).

The secret to motivation = p x e x e x sx3 (purpose x emotions x energy x small simple steps)

As your body moves, your brain grooves.

Small simple steps: “What is the tiniest action that I can take that would get me closer to my dream while I can not fail?” (Just putting the sport shoes on, just opening the book)
Break it down to small simple steps.

How to upgrade your brain?

  1. Good diet (avocados, blueberries, cale, spinach, salmon, good fats, walnuts, dark chocolate)

  2. Killing ANTs (automatic negative thoughts)

  3. Exercise

  4. Brain nutrients (

  5. Positive peer group

  6. Clean environment (your outer world is a reflection of your inner world)

  7. Sleep

  8. Brain protection

  9. New learnings (reading is very important)

  10. Stress management (meditation)

What are some study or work hacks?

Study in 25 minute increments and take a 5 min break (move, drink water, breathe).

Music in the background (classical music).

Use smell as a trigger to remember and recollect!

Focus on things that give the most results (80/20 rule).

How to read faster?

Some obstacles to effective reading

  • Lack of education

  • Lack of focus (it's because you're reading too slow!)

  • Subvocalization

  • Re-reading

Don't downgrade your dreams to accommodate current situations. Upgrade your skills to make your dreams come true.
